The Crested Saguaro: An Origin Myth

Posted on October 5, 2023October 5, 2023 by Tina Forsee
Experimental very mixed media video.

I’ve finally finished working on a little film based on a story I wrote a while back which was inspired by Aristophanes’ soulmate origin myth in Plato’s Symposium. I came up with the idea one day while watching a show on Arizona Public Media about crested saguaros. Someone on the show commented, “No one knows what causes this mutation,” and for some reason this made me think of Aristophanes’ spider-like, eight-legged humans cartwheeling up Mt. Olympus. I turned to Geordie Bear and said, “Well, I know how crested saguaros came to be!”

And he said, “We’ll see…”

Got to see my little saguaro movie on the BIG SCREEN!
